As a self-taught artist, Tania grew up under the artistic inspiration of her grandmother and mother, both prolific and award-winning artists. After matriculating, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Higher Education diploma at Potchefstroom’s North-West University. Pursuing her passion for art part time, she taught English for several years, before shifting gears to work as a copywriter in advertising in Cape Town.
In 2007 she started painting full-time, her work gaining widespread interest whilst on exhibition in numerous galleries and art festivals across the Western Cape. Moving to Jerusalem with her husband in 2009 brought a new depth and dimension to her art. She loves drawing from the rich tapestry of people and places she’s encountered on her travels.
They returned to South Africa in 2013, settling in Cape Town, where there is no shortage of inspiration for each new artistic endeavour. Two of her greatest loves in life – art and the sea – are now a part of her daily life. She lives just a short walk from the beach in a light and airy apartment with uninterrupted views of the ocean, lagoon, lighthouse and Table Mountain – the perfect location to stimulate creativity.
Her favoured medium is acrylics combined with gesso for texture – simply because she enjoys the vibrancy and versatility it offers. Tania’s current work often features women or couples, presented with a touch of romanticism and whimsy to uplift the viewer. Her art is characterised by some attention to detail and the combination of rich colour with neutrals – yet is looser in style than her previous works. She enjoys incorporating interesting word play and quotes into some of her art pieces.
“Pouring my creative energies into painting provides a peaceful space, an escape from routine and hopefully something that will capture the imagination and leave a lingering impression on those who view my art.”
